Follow this link for further reading on how you can develop your talents.

  1. Determine Your Talent or Goal For Your Life

One of the first things you need to do is discover what talents you have. While some may say that they do not have any talents, I truly believe all of us have something we enjoy doing.

What are your interests? Put them down on a paper and explore them one at a time. Sometimes, it is possible for you to have multiple talents; pick the one that you enjoy most. If they are interrelated, you may be able to make two choices, as long as one compliments the other. This will prevent you from spreading your energy across many interests.

For example, I love writing and I love motivating people to the point where, once I start I can go on for hours without getting tired. I get up each day thinking about what topic I can write about to motivate others. Sometimes, when I write, I think faster than I can type.

  1. Develop the Discipline to Practice Your Talent Every Day

There is a saying that practice makes perfect. For me, practice makes me develop a consistent habit.  As the late motivational speaker Jim Rohn said, “Success was nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.” I believe that if we do not use our talents we will never develop them.

I listened to a woman on social media talking about how she had not done any writing for a long while. As a result, of not practicing for over a year, she felt out of sorts in her field. My friend, was a lifeguard and had not practiced for 25 years finally decided to go for a swim, only to realize that he could not swim as he did. This shows that if you do not use something you eventually become less efficient at it or lose it all together.

Therefore, I urge you to keep your momentum and make a commitment to practice your talent daily. Time spend doing something will definitely increase your natural abilities.

  1. Educate Yourself About Talent or Area of Interest

At first, you might settle for minor practicing of your talent. However, there will come a time when you will be curious to go a little further. There would be that strange curious feeling urging you to go a little further. Moreover, as you go further, you will become braver; this bravery will bring you out of your comfort zone.

Follow your instinct to learn; there is no direct path to success. Seek the information you need to know: whether it is reading about your talent, enrolling in a course, looking at videos, or joining professional groups or organizations.

Be consistent in your quest for knowledge. Each day, make it a priority to learn something about the talent that you have. Use your imagination and think creatively.

  1. Be Relentless in Developing Your Skills/ Talent

One of the most difficult things to do is keep the faith in the face of adversity. If you have a paying job, you may not feel the need to be relentless. However, when you are desperate and have no money coming into your pocket, you have no choice but to keep chipping away at your goals. You have to develop discipline.

There are days when you will feel energetic and there are days when you will feel like giving up. For me, I have learned not to look too far ahead. Instead, I try as much as possible to focus on the day before me, and what I can do to take myself a step closer to my goals.

Since I made the commitment to pursue my goals, I have found it easier to move forward. My encouragement to you is to find out what you want to do and do it every day, even when you do not feel like if you want to do it. If you have anyone supporting you, this will be an asset, in times when you lose courage.

  1. Celebrate Your Small Achievements

When you are just starting out on a goal, it is imperative that you take time to congratulate yourself on each small accomplishment. I could remember the first time I built my website, it looked crooked as an old house, but I felt a sense of pride as I looked at it.

I have learned that once you keep working on a deficient area in your life and you never give up, the chances of you succeeding is high. Today, my website is not perfect, but it is very different from the first time I did it.

In your pursuit of your goals, you will need to learn things that are a necessary for the development of your personal growth.  For example, one of my major aims is to write, it was a necessary that I have a website on which to expose my writing. For without this medium, I will not reach the people who are interested in what I have to offer.

As you go forward, I urge you to celebrate each small accomplishment and keep thinking about ways in which you can expand. You may feel lost at the moment, but I assure you that one you make a commitment and apply these steps everything will unfold. The key is to start and not worry about how you are going to get there.
