Mistakes People Make in Their Quest For Employment

Three Mistakes People Make in Their Quest For Employment

I had a very long day and if I was not so determined to write this post I would have ended up falling asleep with my head on the computer. This post is for people in search of gainful employment, a means of livelihood, but most of all a job that involves something they are passionate about; You see, many of us we either get stuck doing something we hate or we get stuck waiting for something we enjoy doing. Whether your desire is to become self-employed or work in an area you truly enjoy, the key question is, “How do you get out of either situation?” More importantly, “What prevents you from getting out of that situation?”

They Fail To Take Action Regarding Their Employment Situation

If you do not take action, your employment situation will never change. Whether you are in a dead-end job or unemployed, taking action is the only way to get anywhere. For those who are in jobs that they hate going to every day, it is crucial for you to decide if you want to stay or to move on. Once you have made a decision regarding your employment status, there are many actions you can take when trying to change your current situation; You can apply for a different job, more in line with your interests, further your studies in a new field, or in the same field, that is, if obtaining a higher position in your current field is what you crave. To expand on my post below is a link to an article I found with some useful tips:

5 Steps to Overcome the Challenges of Job Search When Unemployed

As a nurse, I decided that though I loved bedside nursing, my real passion came in helping/teaching others in the same profession. Instead of veering off in to a new field, I simply furthered my studies in the educational aspect of nursing.

Whatever field of employment you choose, make sure it is something other than staying in a job you have no joy. Most jobs are eight or more hours per day; imagine spending 8 hours of your 12 hours in an environment you hate for the rest of your life. Some of us get comfortable and despite not being happy, we prefer to stay in our current situation rather than make an effort to improve.

If you are unemployed, the key is to find something that you have some level of interest in and focus on developing in a few areas around that interest. You do not need to have a job to be useful. Instead of waiting for a job to land in your lap, be proactive in educating yourself. On the internet, you can find information on every topic you can imagine. Get a head start by preparing now so that when the right employment opportunity comes you will be ready.

Three Mistakes To Avoid During Times Of Adversity

They Get Stuck In The Planning Phase

You want to move on and you want to make things happen, but you cannot seem to get past the planning stage. You feel as if you are not ready, despite all the information and resources that are available to you. You are probably plagued with a lot of what ifs and the fear of failing and what others will think about you if you decide to take action.

You might be getting a reasonable salary, in your current field of employment, and you feel as if you let go you will not be able to maintain your current lifestyle. Heck, you might even be living from paycheck to paycheck and see no way to sustain yourself. I can understand the struggle you are experiencing because I have been there and I know it is not easy finding a job in today’s economy. Even starting up your own business is challenging; always remember if you do not try, you will never know what you are capable of doing and becoming.

Also, remember that no matter how much you plan you will never feel ready. Look back at what you are leaving and ask yourself if you would rather stay than move forward and if the answer is moving forward just take a leap of faith and fully commit to making things work. Be flexible in your approach and know that as long as you keep putting in the effort, your path will unfold before you, slowly but surely.

For those of you out of a job and have all those ideas that you somehow keep putting off taking action on them, this is the time to do so. Imagine what would happen if you sit on whatever qualifications and or skills you have and wait for an opportunity that never comes? How would you feel a couple of years down the road if you are still waiting for that job, especially when you know you could have done something to change your situation?

So you are qualified for a job but you are still unemployed? What do you do in this instance? Do you wait or do you keep building yourself? As someone once said, “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” Do not sit and wait idly, prepare now for your future opportunities.”~~Ophelia Myall

They Give Up Too Easily

Taking action is only a part of dealing with challenges. The key issue with many people is that they start things but never finish anything. Instead of focusing on a few key ideas, you spread your energy on many things and so at the end of the day, you end up getting tired, frustrated, and in the end, you leave a trail of unfinished business behind you.

If you are going to succeed, you must be aware that success does not come easily. You might look at the lives of others and think that they had it easy, but what you did not see is the number of times they cried, got angry and frustrated, and felt hopeless. The only thing that kept them going was their commitment and faith in a higher power. I just listened to Tyrese telling Steve Harvey how broke he was starting out on his journey; for him, he kept his faith in God and kept pushing despite his challenges.

Take a rest when you get tired, frustrated, or need to re-evaluate your situation. Whatever you do, do not give up. You may need to be flexible in your approach, but never give up. As someone who has gone through many struggles, especially in the last three years, I know that eventually something has got to give, but only if you hang in there.

How To Rise Above Hopeless Situations

How To Rise Above Hopeless Situations

I was reflecting on something I heard in a video today and it resonated with my experiences and beliefs so much I had to write this blog. Often times, it is difficult for people in seemingly hopeless situations to see themselves as anything but what is currently happening in their lives. Whether it is family, relationship, financial, spiritual, or any other issue, there is always hope. Today I share with you my views regarding getting out of a hopeless situation

As someone with the hope of encouraging others to rise above their circumstances and hopeless situations, I realize that simply telling you what you need to do or not to do is not enough. If I want to help people, to get out of hopeless circumstances, I have to understand where they are coming from.

The Role Of An Encourager

As someone with the hope of encouraging others to rise above their circumstances and hopeless situations, I realize that simply telling you what you need to do or not to do is not enough. If I want to help people, to get out of hopeless circumstances, I have to understand where they are coming from.

I need to understand that if you were born in to poverty for instance, that it might be difficult for you to see past your current situation.

The great news is that many people have risen above their hopeless circumstances and have achieved more than even they could have imagined. In addition, because of the many stories that I have heard or witnessed, I know that it is possible for you or anyone to rise above a hopeless situation.

So, what do we do as people who want to help others? We take time to understand where the person is coming from and we use our lives as examples to let them see that even if it seems impossible they can do it too.  Sometimes, all someone need is a glimmer of hope in order to try.

Reaching Out To Someone Who Feels Hopeless

I encourage you, if you are facing a seemingly hopeless situation, not to limit your vision to what is happening presently. Instead of focusing on what your situation is, look to the life of someone else who has experienced similar situations as you are experiencing. Look and see that they have risen above their challenges, despite everything that said they could not.

If you must, read as many success stories as you can. This will help to give you hope as you take the first step in transforming your life.

You Have A Choice

Always remember that life is not contained in a box. Even though you may have been born or is in a difficult situation, you have the power to turn things around. Tell yourself that if someone else can do what he or she did despite all the odds you can too. Remember, it is all in your mind. If you can see it then it is possible to achieve.

Here is an interesting article with great insight on How to Overcome Your Feelings of Hopelessness.

Are You Willing To Try?

Success at anything in life is not because of luck as some may think. Instead, your ability to achieve depends on your willingness to try, even when you do not see any signs that what you are doing will work. Anything thing you do, think of it as a seed that you have planted. Each day, concentrate on attending the seed. When you plant a seed, yo

u expect that it would grow. In addition, your faith in its ability to become fruitful is what keeps you nurturing it each day.

You Are Not Alone

If you are a believer in the Almighty God, then know that you are not alone. Sometimes, you have to have a little faith and believe that God is with you. Even when you feel as if there is no hope, do not lose the belief that he will give you the tools you need to come out of your situation. Keep the faith even when you cannot see any physical means of overcoming your situation.

Nurture Your Dreams

Similarly, you must attend to the things you set out to achieve. At first, it will be all in your head, but you must develop the courage to take action. Moreover, each day, instead of sitting and wishing, you take action by doing the best you can to make that vision become a reality. Like the seed, a goal that you act upon and approach every day will eventually lead to success.

It may not be a big bang, but you will surely reap the benefits of what you planted. Keep working on the things that help you achieve your goal and if you do them long enough and approach each day with purpose and flexibility, your hopeless situation will slowly become hopeful. Remember, you have no choice in the circumstances you were born in, but you sure do have a choice as to whether you stay in it or create something better for yourself.

I do not allow myself to be overcome by hopelessness, no matter how tough the situation. I believe that if you just do your little bit without thinking of the bigness of what you stand against, if you turn to the enlargement of your own capacities, just that itself creates new potential.

How To Stay Focused During Challenging Times

How To Stay Focused During Challenging Times

Staying focused when we are experiencing challenging times is in itself a challenge. But, although staying focused is in itself a challenge, we realize that we must not let our situations get the best of us. Regardless to what is going on us, we have to find a way to cope and stay focused on what we want to achieve in our lives. Whether our goal is a physical, spiritual, financial, or relationship goal, we need to foucs in order to attain it. Today, want to share with you a few things I do to help me stay focused when going through challenging times. Here is an article that can also help you on staying focused. Click here to read.

  1. Concentrate On Finding Solutions and Not on The Problem

By now, we have all proven that worrying never solved our problems. Today I urge you to focus your energy on finding solutions to your problems instead of focusing on the problem itself. If there is any truth in the theory “whatever an individual focuses on grows” then you should focus on positive things rather than negative. Instead of staying focused on what does not work, shift your attention to finding things that work. Even if you do not have an immediate answer, do not despair, keep trying. With persistence comes success.

2. Take One Day At A Time

When we are in challenging situations and we look too far in to the future it causes much anxiety. In your moments of despair, do not torture yourself by looking too far ahead. Instead of wondering how things are going to work for you, concentrate on the moment. Do what you can in the moment. Distract your thoughts by occupying yourself with something meaningful such as reading a book, taking a walk, going to the beach, meditating/praying, listening to something inspirational such as preaching or motivational speaking. Most of all, work on your goals.

I can recall my experiences over these past two and a half years. I struggled emotionally to the point of despair. Sometimes I’d get so anxious just thinking about the future. My future looked bleak. With all the rejection I have had in the past two plus years, I was really feeling hopeless. But, then, I realized that these negative thoughts were not helping me. Instead, I began doing things daily that helped keep me occupied and were relevant to the goals I had set for myself. When I changed my strategy, my entire way of thinking gradually shifted and so did the sense of despair.

Action is the antidote to despair. – Joan Baez

3. Believe In A Higher Power

One of the most popular phrase that people tell us when they are trying to encourage us is to “believe in yourself.” I do agree with this encouragement, but I need to add another line to this, that is “believe in a higher power than you.”

Through my difficult moments, I refused to believe that everything in my life that I had done was in vain. I knew I needed a miracle to turn things around for me. But I also knew that I had to use the talents that God gave me in order to make things happen in my life. I had to believe that God wanted what was best for me. I also believed in His words, He will never leave me nor forsake me. Sometimes, I would talk to God and tell him I needed a miracle. Today, I am witnessing my miracle (s) things are not perfect, but what has been happening in my life is not just a feeling, but also the changes have become physically evident.

4. Continue Persevering Despite Your Circumstances

When you are going through a challenging situation, you can easily feel discouraged; especially if the situation has been going on for a long period of time. After a while, of seemingly beating your head against the wall of problems, you become tired. The temptation then becomes greater, and you feel the urge to give up. But, do not give up. Hang in there!

As humans, we tend to place more hope and faith in the things that are visible to us; however, we have to realize that sometimes there is simply no outward evidence of how well we are doing. In order for us to assess our growth, in the absence of physical evidence, we have to turn inward and reflect on what is happening inside of us. Ask yourself questions such as “How do I feel now compared to when my problems first started? “ Has anything change; for example in the way I think, respond or view my circumstances and life as a whole?” Is what I am doing positively affecting the people around me?”

Your answers to the questions you asked yourself will be the only evidence as to whether you are going in the right direction. If you do not like the answers, it means that you may need to seek a second opinion from someone who is not biased. It also means that you may need to reflect on what you have been doing and change course if necessary.

One thing to know is that when things are working for you and you are not seeing any physical evidence, there will still be a sense of satisfaction within you. Also, if you are on the right path, it is more likely that what you are doing will be helping others around you. Be patient with yourself. Everything takes time, so do not expect that things will change without much hard work.

All the best in your future endeavor. Please take a moment o share this post with someone. Comments are also highly appreciated.

Three Mistakes To Avoid During Times Of Adversity

Three Mistakes To Avoid During Times Of Adversity

How do you deal with stress, challenges, or adversity?  There is no way we would and could go through life without experiencing adversity. So what do we do? Do we run each time we encounter a difficulty?  Alternatively, do we find a way to cope and to do so positively? Whether the source of our stress results from a relationship, work, social, or environmental issue, life is going to throw us challenges.

Five Things To Consider When Facing Life’s Challenges

Some of the challenges we encounter would be small, whereas some would be of a nature that threaten to overwhelm us and sap the energy out of us. When adversity comes knocking, we need to hold on to a few beliefs that will help sustain us through the process. In this post, I discuss some of the mistakes that people make when experiencing adversity. If you do not feel like reading you can always listen to the video  below for some valuable tips on dealing with adversity.

  1. Trying to Control The Issue

I think by now every adult, with soundness of mind, know that we are not always able to control what happens to us. Sometimes we create our own storms, and sometimes, things happen when someone outside of us failed to take responsibility.

Regardless of the cause of your situation, there is no point trying to control a situation that has gone beyond your control. You will find that the more you fight with the problem is the more pain it causes.

When things are not the way you want, you should be able to decide if it is worth fighting for, holding on, or letting go. I say, if you have done all in your power and the situation has not changed for the better, it is time to try something new. Sometimes, the something new is taking time to reflect, giving the problem a break, or seeking an alternative where possible.

Here’s a beautiful ariticle that suggests ways in whcih you can overcome adversities.

If you cannot change your environment, you can change the way you view adversity. In addition, as you change the way you look at adversity, you will find new ways of dealing with your situation.

  1. Looking at Your Life Based on Your Current Circumstances

Yeah, I know everything seem hopeless right now. You are looking at your circumstances and there seems to be no end in sight. You may have been in the situation for months or even years and nothing seemed to have changed.

Think of your situation as a cloudy sky. Imagine that you woke up one morning to find it was raining and the sky covered with clouds. Nevertheless, as you go through the day, the rain stops and the cloud passes to reveal a beautiful blue sky… this is how life is. This is how your circumstances operate. If you keep the faith long enough and do what you know in our heart to be right, you will make it through whatever adversity you are facing. Moreover, you will grow through your situation.

Is there something in your life that is causing you discomfort? Is there something in your life you know you need to change? Do not wait for things to magically change, instead create a vision of what you want your life to be like and work towards that vision. Always remember, you are more than your circumstances and once you change your mindset, your circumstances will change.

  1. Letting Your Circumstances Dictate How You Treat Others

Sometimes, if we are not careful, periods of adversity can cause us to become bitter. However, you must always be cognizant that there is no room for bitterness if you want a fulfilling life. Besides, bitterness  only adds to your already challenging situation, if you let those feelings consume you.

I have found that whenever I am facing adversity it brings me more peace when I extend a helping hand to someone less fortunate. Always remember, that there are people who are in situations far worse. Today I challenge you to keep your heart soft and in a good place. Practice helping others through your pain. When you focus on helping others, you have less time to dwell on your circumstances. In addition, there is much joy to be experienced from making someone else’s day than sitting at home in the victim mode.

Five Things To Consider As You Face Life’s Challenges

Five Things To Consider As You Face Life’s Challenges

As I sat thinking about what I was going to write today, I reflected on these first few months of this year 2017. I reflected on all the that have occurred in my life before the start of this year and then I smiled. It is not that I am not experiencing challenges, I am, but I chose not to focus on the negative aspects. I have chosen instead to look at every small moment of ups that I have experienced. Todays, post is about focusing on the positive things in your life and not the negative. And you can do this is so many ways; below are just some things to consider as you travel the challenging journey call life.

  1. How Do You Generally Look At Your Situation?

Your Situations in Life depends on how you perceive and react to it rather what actually happens to you. When things are going smoothly in our lives, it is quite easy for us to feel as if we are conquerors. And, the feeling is good, because we look at things through rose-colored lenses. However, when life throws us stones and big rocks, this is where the test of your strength comes into play. We have a choice of either keep moving or giving up? Which will it be? Only you can decide.

  1. What Kinds Of Emotions Are Dominant When You Have Challenges?

How do you react when you meet those ups and downs? Do you react in the same way as you would when things are going smoothly? Do you experience negative emotions such as extreme anger, self-pity, self-blame, self-defeat? Do you get impatient at first then quickly realize and change your approach to positive? Or, do you react negatively and continue in that negative mindset, hoping for something great to happen so you can feel like a conqueror again?

  1. How Can You Get Rid of  Negative Emotions

It is not always easy to feel strong when life feels like it is beating you down. But I am asking you to consider reflection as part of your growth process. The next time something challenging happens to you, I want you to recall this discussion and reflect on your how you feel and react to it. If your response to your challenging situation is to throw in the towel, I want you to catch yourself and halt those feelings that do not serve you well. Make a conscious effort to do so, it may prove very difficult to do but, even if it takes you half an hour or two hours, keep fighting the negative emotions. Let go of the negative emotions: the self-defeating thoughts, and the victim mode. Tell yourself that you are a conqueror regardless of your situation. Follow this link for video and blog with suggestions on how to get rid of a negative habit.

  1. Do You Have A Go To Anchor?

If you have belief in a higher being (in my instance I believe in God) consider prayer. Express gratitude for the good things in your life, even if you feel you have nothing. Remember that you have life and that is the most important gift. Without life there is nothing. Keep that mindset and begin to make a plan for your life. Have the faith that you will be more than just okay. That things will work out for your good and the good of those who you wish to help.

  1. Consider Having A Plan For Your Life.

Having a plan for your life does not mean that things will turn out the way you want them. Having a plan just serves as a road map; you may not necessarily follow the exact path on this map. It prevents you from wandering in life and falling for any and everything that is all around you. The music you listen to, the books you read, the people you dwell among,  can and will affect your life, for better or worse. The plan you have for your life is what will decide your ultimate choices in life.

Let the destination/ goal be something that is beyond the physical and material things in life. Let it be something that is so beautiful that people will see the radiance you give off around you. Let that destination be one that positively affects the life of other humans and not just yourself. For, to seek a solely materialistic destination would not give you such beautiful rewards as one that affects the life of other humans.

  1. Life is Beautiful, Capture The Moments.

Life is not meant to live in fear. However, if you do not handle the challenges wisely you can end up feeling discontented and unhappy. In all that we do, we should strive to capture the beauty in our moments. Although I speak of a destination, I do not mean in a physical sense. I meant, in a sense where the growth that you aspire to is within yourself. To be the best you, which is something that requires we constantly grow. As long as we live we will continue to grow (for better or worst).
